Open the front door and step inside a house exploding with patterns, colors, and Laura Ljungkvist’s signature line! Young children can follow the line through every room, discovering hidden surprises. From the kitchen with its stocked refrigerator, to the playroom brimming with toys, to the basement with its shiny toolbox, this house is filled with visual treasures.

Questions prompt children to count, identify colors, and find matching elements. The deceptively simple geometric art invites hours of observation and helps build important pre-math skills.

From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 3—A companion to the author's entertaining Follow the Line (Viking, 2006). Here, Ljungkvist takes her acrobatic line and rhyming text into a house and invites children to locate common items inside a toolbox, a refrigerator, a medicine cabinet, a toy box, etc. While the line challenges and trains the eye to follow it, the text poses some questions and suggests activities such as counting like objects, choosing clothing to wear to the beach or to a party, and deciding what foods are needed to make a sandwich. The author uses a mixture of bright and muted colors and includes some of her daughter's drawings to decorate the playroom. Some family photos and even a postcard written in Swedish appear in the attic treasure box. Objects like an old rotary phone and a record player will likely intrigue children and possibly even stump them; that just adds to the fun. The last page cleverly sends children back to look again by asking, "As you were exploring, did you see a mouse?" or "A few things were put in spots that were wrong. Where do those things really belong?" While not as flashy bright as Walter Wick's "I Spy" books (Scholastic), this clever, interactive offering is a welcome addition to the genre. Children will line up to check it out.—Kirsten Cutler, Sonoma County Library, CA

Beautiful Book
By STP
This book is beautifully illustrated. The plot of the story is to follow a line through the rooms of a house to see what things and treasures are in the house. The line, frankly, is a little too complicated for little fingers to follow (my almost 3 year old girl cannot do it), but the book has beautiful pictures. I think this book will draw children who love art, who are emotional, and who are intuitive; but it will not entice the kid who loves a good plot and is matter-of-fact. I can imagine my daughter curling up in bed and looking at the pictures over and over. My 4 year old son will find this book very boring.

EVERYONE SHOULD OWN THIS BOOK!
By madease
Our son (who is now 3, 4 in August) adores this book. The artwork is fantastic, very expressive with page after page filled with objects drawn in a very loose abstract but distinctive fashion. Night after night I would `read' the book to him but rather than really reading the book TO him (theres not much text), it was the illustrations I would ask him about and he would start to memorize and really comprehend. For instance, there is a double page spread with stuff that would be in a refrigerator (carrots, beets, olives, cheese, cake, bacon, a Robot (!)), that really is beautiful and we are proud to say he now knows what many different types of food/produce look like. He can easily identify when we are at a supermarket when I point things out and ask him what they are. There is a spread with tools, one with a basement, one with a bathroom, one with a medicine cabinet, all done in this great scandinavian simplicity. I HIGHLY recommend all of her books but this one is hands down our fave! It is fun, dynamic and really engaging!

Follow the Line Through the House - Ahgoo Review
By Ahgoo Review
This book is published by Viking and I love it. If you have an Etch-a-Sketch I strongly suggest sitting down with it and attempting to created the lines on the pages. There is much to see and learn as we travel through the house. The book is recommended for children 4 and up but children as young as 2 or 3 may be able to enjoy the story. The end of the book asks a few questions that will encourage the young reader to go back to start and read it again and again.

The creative element of the book mixed with the encouragement of sorting skills and early math skills is near genius. Kids will love looking through tool boxes, toy boxes, refrigerators and more. The reader will be able to sit with their child and point out different objects found in various locations. Children will quickly learn that a robot belongs in a toy box rather than the refrigerator. With simple illustrations this book is engaging to little eyes. I strongly suggest it for every bookshelf.
