My son loves it, but I'm not so happy about some of the "records"

My son has been reading and quoting this book since he received it for Christmas. It is a very large hardcover book, and the pictures in it are great. The only thing I don't like about it is that some of the records just seem really gross to me now and I don't remember my childhood copy having all those "records". He has given me examples of multiple gory injuries that somehow didn't cause death, like a man falling off a ladder with a drill bit that goes through his eye and pushed his brain to the side, and other unpleasant things, like the person with the most holes in their face who can run a string through his mouth from the hole in one cheek to the hole in the other.

He also got the video game version, which I almost prefer to this because of my examples, but he seems to like this one much more.

I figured since I only buy him books and clothes I better make it good and this did the trick

This is not just a book about people consuming Irish beer, but actually a book of all kinds of cool facts! I bought this for my 7 year old god son for Christmas. I figured since I only buy him books and clothes I better make it good and this did the trick. It was great to see him ignore all the plastic crap everyone else had bought him as he and his cousins all had their noses in this book. I'm not sure if he will learn much, but at least I got his eyes off the TV for a while. I'm interested to see what the 2017 edition will include. I'm hoping its different enough to justify buying annually. I have nothing but fond memories of the Guinness World Records books from when I was a kid.

Bit hit in my family has been for many years!

This is a tradition in our family ,every Christmas I buy one for my family and all the guys in the family nephews, in-laws,brother basically making sure every family gets a copy. We are already reading it and passing it around as other gifts are being opened. These are always brand new books, they are nice big books and it's hard to put it down once you open it. Can't beat the price. I use to buy them at Walmart but not anymore... Amazon only for me because the price is the same Walmart has been selling out fast the past few years and it is just much nicer to have the same priced item delivered to your door instead of toting a bunch of heavy things home. These are really great gifts at any time of the year and once you start the tradition believe me it will be expected every year!

When Kristie comes home from college, the last thing she expects is her world to be turned upside down by the appearance of a handsome, gruff stranger, Gray. He is the head of a biker gang in town called the Devil’s Advocates.

Kristie’s mom asks if she can befriend Gray in hopes of getting him on the straight and narrow. The plan backfires, however, as Kristie finds herself falling for Gray. Is it possible he feels the same way? The connection between them threatens to tear down everything Kristie has ever held dear.

The more she falls for Gray, the more messy things get. As Gray gets yanked further and further into the world of his gang, Kristie finds herself having to make a choice: stay on her own path or risk everything to be with Gray. Will she be able to make it out unscathed?

Book 2

Kristie has finally graduated from college. With a new boyfriend in tow, Gray’s rival, Armand, and moving back into her mother’s house, it feels as if life might finally fall back into place. But Gray, the love of her life and her cousin by marriage, happens to return after hiding out of town. He’s been freed of being suspected of a murder he didn’t commit and is now looking to reclaim glory in his gang, the Devil’s Advocates, once again.

But both Kristie and Gray are in for surprises. People aren’t always what they seem. Kristie struggles to work through her relationship problems with Armand while Gray struggles to fall back into a position of power in the life he left behind. As the two of them are drawn closer together, both must choose the life they want – with each other, or alone. No matter what they end up picking, the risks in their lives can end up costing the two of them everything.

Book 3

It’s been six months since Kristie was taken down in a gun fight related to her husband’s gang activity. Kristie finds herself struggling to get over the traumatic incident to move on with her life. She only wants one thing now – a child to call her own.

Despite Gray’s promise to leave the gang behind, he finds himself searching for Armand and a way to take out the Infernos. Kristie protests, saying that she wants to forget about it and start a new life together. But Gray cannot let go of the fact that Armand almost killed his wife.

Kristie and Gray find themselves losing sense of their relationship. Kristie is unable to conceive and feels as if she is failing Gray. Meanwhile, Gray throws himself into the Devil’s Advocates.

The cycle of violence continues but this time the stakes might be too high and the price to pay might only be one of blood.

Book 4

When Kristie discovers she is pregnant after thinking she cannot conceive, her world is flipped even more upside down. Her best friend had just been gunned down in a gang related shooting and her husband, Gray, is in a battle for his life with a rival gang.

Kristie finds herself juggling her pregnancy and the daughter she had adopted from her best friend. She finds herself being dragged into the dark world of the gang war against her bidding and must find a way to survive with her children.

Gray has a plan to get their happily-ever-after life but it is risky. He isn’t sure if it will pay off or not. With different cards to play and different people to keep wrapped around his finger, Gray puts everything at stake to get rid of Armand.

But Armand won’t go quietly. As the fighting continues, Kristie and Gray realize that everything is at stake.

Love this series!!!!!

Having read some MC books before I was expecting it to be fairly predictable but as soon as I started reading this series I knew it was different to other books.While other MC series involve the female interest getting immersed into club life this series took the opposite approach where she wanted nothing to do with it, in switching perspectives of the book Carla Coxwell has changed what could've been a predictable plot to a plot that focuses on human struggles.
What I like most about this series is that we as the reader get to see the other side of the coin in how Gray struggles to leave his former life and look after Kristie as well, the struggles that the couple goes through as individuals and together was what made me keep on reading this series because like most readers I was waiting for that HEA and thankfully it came in the end.

Loved reading this series!! It has all the ingredients for a great story love,danger, suspense, and a sexy motorcycle rider (just picture Charlie Hunnam a.k.a. Jax Teller and you can't go wrong!! Lol). In all seriousness I read a lot on here and I can tell you this is absolutely worth the read there are a few parts that I could have done without that I didn't feel the main character would have done(I don't want to give away spoilers) but it doesn't hurt the story at all!! I can't wait to read more from this author in the future for sure!!!

I have just started getting into MC romance novels when this one popped up as one I might liked. I read the first book and immediately liked the story of Gray and Kristie. It ended up taking a different path that I had expected but one I enjoyed. I ended up reading the whole series in just a few days. I don't like giving away any details of the books so I won't but I would recommend this series to all that like a little switch up.

About the Author
Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.

Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).

When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.

A Love Letter to Whiskey is not an easy read

The first page of this book gutted me. A Love Letter to Whiskey is not an easy read. It’s the opposite of easy. It’s stressful. It will make you cry, make you feel and have your stomach in knots. It’s easily the most angst-filled book I’ve read this year. I was not expecting this from a Kandi Steiner book. The other two books I read by here were not like this LOL. I have a love/hate relationship with excessive angst and I usually lean more towards the hate side. But this book… This story… As hard as it was to read, I fell in love. Kandi’s words are beyond gorgeous. This book is real, raw and you will devour it.

By the first chapter of this book, I was fully invested in the story and in the main character, B. B meets Jamie her junior year of high school. It doesn’t start out as love, but friendship. Jamie and B become the best of friends, but so much more is between them. This story spans a decade. A decade of love, loss, friendship, heartache and emotion.

As the years pass, mistakes are made. There is miscommunication. There is a lot of stress and misunderstandings. But there is also a lot of love. Desire. I could feel how much these two loved each other, wanted each other, and needed each other. I was addicted to their story. I couldn’t stop reading. No matter how difficult it got, I couldn’t put the book down. Oh those rare books that are impossible to stop reading- they are such a treasure. I must have bit off all my nails while reading. I felt like I needed a drink. This love story was complicated. It was devastating. It was intense. And these two had the absolute worst timing ever.

Jamie is a character I loved from the start. He’s Whiskey. He’s addicting, smooth, and you will get drunk off of him. His nickname suits him. B is one of those characters that was tough. She was likable, then she was frustrating, then I felt for her… lord did I feel for her. Then I went back to being frustrated with her. My emotions were all over the place. One thing she was- REAL. She was a real person. She was not perfect, but by the end, I felt like she had a lot of growth.

I feel like this review has been a lot of rambling and I’m not giving this story the type of review it deserves. It’s because my emotions are all over the place. This story is bittersweet. It’s heart-wrenching and soul shattering. And it absolutely blew me away. It’s a book that you’ll love to hate and hate to love. I feel like no matter how you feel after reading, YOU WILL FEEL. This is a story that will elicit strong feelings from everyone who reads it.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book like this, and even longer since I’ve read one that effected me this strongly. Kandi Steiner’s writing is exquisite. This is one of the most beautifully written stories I have ever read. It will make you feel. Not all of those feelings will be pretty, but you will feel. There were so many moments while reading, I felt like I couldn’t breathe. This one really got under my skin and made my heart ache. By the end, I was happy I stuck it out. This is a story of heartache, love and friendship. It’s an epic read and one that I couldn’t give anything less than 5 stars to. Word to the wise, bring some Whiskey along when reading. You’ll need it.

An angst-lovers dream. Would have liked dual POV's but that's just me.

B and "Whiskey" meet in high school. Whiskey starts dating her friend, Jenna, and that is where their rocky love story begins. B and Whiskey know they have real feelings for each other but time, circumstances and just plain stubborn stupidity get in their way a lot. I am not going to lie, B made me crazy in this book. Her selfishness and immaturity knew no bounds at times. Her parents were dysfunctional and, though she tried to blame it all on her dad, her mother wasn't much better in the healthy relationships part either. Whiskey put himself out there again and again and usually got burned in the end by B. When Whiskey finally put himself first, B does her usual go to of running away and moving on claiming he left her. The fact she didn't even contact Whiskey for 3 years didn't even enter her warped mind. She wanted what she wanted, when she wanted it and didn't want anyone or anything to get in her way. She wanted all of Whiskey's love and attention, but didn't feel she needed to reciprocate in the same way. I loved when Jenna finally let her have it for her reckless and self-absorbed thinking that cause great damage to those who loved her. The book was an angst-filled paradise for those who like that sort of thing. I am not a fan and this book was a struggle for me at points. I did enjoy the end but, again, not a real big fan of books where I travel a long road to get to a point where they may get their HEA and I am left in the dark as to what happens after their rocky road ends. If you are going to put readers through hell - give them a bigger glimpse than 2 pages as a wrap-up.

What I loved: The Title. The ad words - just sucked me right in, I couldn't wait for this powerful, moving book.

What I didn't like: The title and the ads are total LIES. I did not receive the book they promised me. I feel cheated, darn it! I love NA because of the directness of the characters, the passion, the angst ... none of which I found in this story.

Where's the powerful addiction to a magnetic, sexy man she can't live with and can't live without? Where are the tears, the heartache, the freaking DRAMA? Nowhere that I could see. This is a bland, typical 'I met him in HS, fell so hard, we went off to college and dated, blah, blah, blecch.'

The reasons they are torn apart felt manufactured, not driven by the hero and heroine's characters AT ALL.

Mild Spoilers ahead ... very mild.

She's a poor girl from a broken home - where are the forces that drive her because of this? She never says 'I can't live without security or that kind of thing' she just says 'Oh, I can never tell him I love him ... erm, why, chickie?'

He's the golden boy that all the girls want - why in the everloving heck would he not speak up to her and say 'Hey, I think we got it goin' on' ?? No, instead we get 'Oh, we can never be together, sulk, sulk, see you in a year or so ..'

And yes, my age speaketh here. If I was 17, I'm sure I would have bought into the whole scenario. But, I'm not ... and I didn't.

Pollyanna, with her optimistic outlook on life, turns all the lemons thrown her way into lemonade; punishments are viewed as rewards, unfriendly people in town are befriended. Pollyanna's "Glad Game" is soon played by all the people of the town. A terrible accident with a motor car as she is crossing the street finally breaks Pollyanna's spirit. When long-held secrets are finally revealed, even Aunt Polly comes around to warming up not only to her niece, but to a relationship she had long denied herself. This recording is based on the book by Eleanor H. Porter, originally published in 1913. It remains a charming, albeit old-fashioned, classic. Barbara Caruso's narration is faithful to the text, with a few minor changes sprinkled throughout. Caruso makes use of vocal inflections to differentiate characters. There is no background music or sound effects to distract listeners. Comparable in quality to Pollyanna read by S. Wonderful and sweet!!!

I love this book!!!! It's just as good as the first one. My sixteen-year-old older sister kept this treasured book in her shelf and urged me constantly to read it. I brushed her off saying that I didn't have time and that it looked boring. One day, I had nothing to do so i picked up the well worn book and began reading. Surprise! I couldn't put it down. Not because it was exciting or suspenceful, but simply because it's one of those feel-good, sweet and uplifting books. On first examanation it doesn't seem deep or like it would have something important to teach, but after a closer look you find what a beautiful message it has to share. A girl, who with her kindness and ever cheerful outlook on her surprisingly hard life, make her a role model for any one. This is a perfect book for any girl who likes a delightful story and a sweet romance. I aggree with the other reviewer about Aunt Polly. She is quite exaperating, but the other wonderful charatures make up for it and she keeps it interesting. So, get a cup of hot chocolate and snuggle down by a warm fire with this book and be prepared for a wonderful time!

Wow, I'm a convert

I've always thought of a "Pollyanna" as a sort of dopey, simple, eternally optimistic, blind, illogical doofus, with no firm grip on reality. I think that's more or less the generally accepted meaning of the description now.

Well guess what? The original Pollyanna in this book is a tough, spunky, focused and extremely alert little girl with a strong will and good clear instincts. Her "glad game", which she plays to turn bad news and punishments into good news, is a powerful mechanism for coping with the dismal outlines of her constrained and depressing life situation.

Her spirit and her will to prevail carry her and those she meets to happy and deserved endings.

Like Anne of Green Gables and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Pollyanna is an unjustly neglected and fascinating character, as real and compelling now as in 1913. This is a real find and should not be dismissed out of hand, which is a mistake I would have made had I not resolved to read and fairly weigh everything, even books I assumed were lame. Give this surprising find a try.

A delightfully charming classic!

The story of Pollyanna, the girl of gladness or as later called in the beautifully done anime series from 1986, the girl of love, is a tale of pure wonder that will stay within you forever. This book is for children and grown-ups, for anyone will find the simple beauty of this book, followed by a sequel that was just as wonderful.

After her father's death, the newly-orphaned ten-year-old Pollyanna moves to Beldingsville to live with her strict and dutiful Aunt Polly. In this great new house Pollyanna is at first kept sleeping up in the attic room, for Aunt Polly feels that that is enough for her to accomplish her 'duty.' If not for Old Tom and good, kind house-keeper Nancy, Pollyanna's stay would have been very dull indeed. Although she never realized it, Pollyanna has a great talent, a great gift for gladness. Just by talking she manages to bring life and joy into the lives of her loved ones, and everyone Pollyanna knows is a 'loved one' as she sees it. Little Pollyanna is one day sent to visit the old invalid woman, Mrs. Snow, her illness keeping her in a gloomy room under old bed-sheets. Mrs. Snow is unhappy and hopeless, but soon Pollyanna cheers the woman up with her usual gladness that seems to be very contagious.

At a very young age, Pollyanna was taught by her father a little game, today known as the 'Glad Game.' Being poor and depending on charities to keep alive, Pollyanna and her father received barrels containing supplies and needed things. Pollyanna had wished that one of these would contain a pretty doll, which never arrived, a pair of crutches arrived instead. Pollyanna had naturally cried, but her father told her that she could be 'glad' that she didn't 'need' them, and that's when the game of finding a silver lining in every cloud began.

The 'Glad Game' was soon known to everyone in the town, from the cross Mr. John Pendelton to the "trying-hard-ter-learn-ter-play-it" Nancy. Everyone that is, except for good Aunt Polly. For reasons unknown to Pollyanna, Aunt Polly had forbidden the mentioning of her late father and for this, Pollyanna cannot let her know of the game, since Pollyanna is known for taking everything literally.

However, very dark clouds surround the town of Bendinsville when little Pollyanna is hit by a speeding automobile and loses her ability to walk, so dark these clouds are, that not even Pollyanna knows how she'll be able to find a silver lining in them. I shall write no more, for the rest is for the reader to discover.

Pollyanna may at first be accused of having similarities to 'Anne of Green Gables' and maybe even 'Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm,' but those will only last during the first few chapters, "Pollyanna" soon changes into a very original (And quite interesting) novel. This book is anything but dull, as a previous reader and reviewer had stated, and you simply cannot make such a remark after only having read "the first few chapters." Pollyanna will delight its readers, but its whole wonder cannot be lived until the wonderful sequel, "Pollyanna Grows Up" is read as well. It's true, when you meet Pollyanna, imagining her all grown up is hard, but although she grew older, she never did really change.

Product not as advertised

The title of the ebook includes the words "mp3 value pack." As other reviewers stated, the mp3s are nowhere to be found. Endless attempts to solve this problem through both the original publisher and Amazon have gotten me nowhere. If you need this book (with the ESSENTIAL listening examples) just buy the insanely priced physical copy with CDs. I've had to look up every song for my World Music class elsewhere because of this inconvenience. Not a good experience

The music files DO come with this purchase if you purchase it digitally.

If you read in the beginning of the book after the table of contents it tells you to send an email to AcademiceBooksSupport@informa.com with proof of purchase in order to access the MP3 files. My email was returned within 24 hours with a link and access code to a site to download the music files for all 3 CD's. How to complain when the CD's cost $40 and the book upwards of $50 but renting the book and getting the MP3's for $14. Win-win.

This is a great text. I am using it to teach a World Music class and it has a lot of information and examples.
Many people rated this low becuase they said it did not come with the Mp3. That is not the case. At the end of the table of contents is says to email AcademiceBooksSupport@informa.com with proof of purchasing the eBook (I just forwarded my email from Amazon) and they email you back with a code. After you have that code it is a simple process and you have access to the Mp3.

Once the most lucrative European colony in the Caribbean, Haiti has long been one of the most divided and impoverished countries in the world. In the late 1980s a remarkable popular mobilization known as Lavalas, or “the flood,” sought to liberate the island from decades of US-backed dictatorial rule. After winning a landslide election victory, in 1991 the Lavalas government led by President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was overthrown by a bloody military coup. Damming the Flood analyzes how and why Aristide’s enemies in Haiti, the US and France made sure that his second government, elected with another overwhelming majority in 2000, was toppled by a further coup in 2004.

The elaborate international campaign to contain, discredit and then overthrow Lavalas at the start of the twenty-first century was perhaps the most successful act of imperial sabotage since the end of the Cold War. Its execution and its impact have much to teach anyone interested in the development of today’s political struggles in Latin America and the rest of the post-colonial world.

The Book to Read on Haiti

No foreign policy issue is more distorted in the corporate media than Haiti, with the exception of Isreal/Palestine. Peter Hallward has written a marvelous book with a politically engaged perspective. His account of the years leading up to the U.S. kidnapping of Aristide in 2004 is an invaluable corrective to the demonization of Aristide and Lavalas. The story of Haiti, as told by Hallward, gives the reader insight into the lengths the U.S. government will go to repress popular movements that seek to redistribute wealth. Most Americans cannot comprehend the level of repression the U.S. can bring to bear on a small country like Haiti. For further evidence see the diplomatic cables released by Wikileaks and published in The Nation magazine. This book receives the highest praise from Chomsky, Zizek, and Dr. Paul Farmer. You shouldn't need any further proof that is is a must read.
